BOR T-Chart

What the research says
Evidence showing accuracy or Inaccuracy
Serious
Overall, I wouldn’t consider myself a serious person. If you were to ask my friends or family members they would tell you I am spontaneous, outgoing, and fun. Of course, when i meet someone new i tend to be more timid and shy. I won't fully be myself around anyone unless i can feel comfortable with them.
May procrastinate to relieve burden of perfectionism
I consider myself both a perfectionist and a procrastinator. I do feel as tho this describes me accurately. For example, even if i were to start my homework right when i got home, I still wouldn't be done before midnight because of my need for everything to be perfect. This way, if i start my homework at around 10, I don't have a lot of time to do it, so i don't feel the pressure to make it perfect.
Critical to self and others
For me, this is a true statement. I’m extremely critical of myself. I’m never truly satisfied with myself. I always tell myself that i can do better, try harder, or change in some way.I am also critical of others, but not in the sense of appearance, but more towards attitude and personality.
Likes to be a “rescuer”
I’m Always trying to help and “save” others. Whether it is donating my time, money or efforts, its something I feel I need to do.

Gets along well with people older or younger (not same age)
This is both accurate and inaccurate at the same time. I have friends who are the same age, younger, and older, but their is never too much of an age difference. It’s usually only a one to three year difference.

Purpose of Myth Review

1. Four fundamental questions that myths address:
Who am I? How much control do I have over my my own life? What must I do in order to survive? How can I lead a satisfying life?

2. Four themes of myths:
The first "parents" were gods of sky and Earth, the creator god usually fashions the first human beings from a part of the earth, the gods destroy one world of mortals by a flood, the hero's have an unusual birth and death.

3. The beginning of the universe was filled with chaos.Because of this, the Gods separates everything and gives a section of the earth to each god.

4. Hero myths and epics teach members of society the appropriate behavior, attitudes, and values of that culture.

5. Ordinary people identify with heroes because heroes have weaknesses/imperfections that humans can relate to..

6. The foundation of the Matriarchal Society was the agriculture.

7. Sigmund Freud's view of myths is that myths are the expression of the individual's unconscious wishes, fears, and drives that can not be preformed in reality.

8. Myths demonstrate that people possess the intellectual capacity to understand the world in which they live in.

Birth Order Research

As reported by the study of birth order research, there is a correlation between your birth order, your personality traits, your mental virtues, and your work ethics. According to the study, I am an only child. As I read through some of the attributes an only child displays, I began to realize that I, in some way, possessed almost all the listed qualities. The qualities that describe me most, for example, was being critical towards myself, procrastinating, and being what they described as a "rescuer."

One thing that I've noticed over the past few years especially going into my teenage years, is that I've become very critical of myself. One of the reasons is not only do my parents have high expectations of me, but I also expect greatness within myself. One thing I tend to criticize most is my schoolwork. Although I get good grades, I know I can do better. I also highly doubt myself when I turn in assignments because I don't think I work to the best of my ability. This also has a lot to do with my habit of procrastinating which just so happens to also be an attribute of an only child.

Procrastination has been something that I've struggled with for as long as I can remember. For example, my third-grade teacher would give us weekly package that would do on Friday and I can remember a countless amount of times where I would stay up late on Thursday night trying to finish the work packet for tomorrow. Another more recent example can be found this summer when I was assigned two summer assignments, one for English Honors 2 and one for AP World History. Although it had all summer to work on them, I decided to wait until the last few days to even open the books I was assigned to read. I didn't start reading the history book, Guns, Germs, and Steel, let alone answer the questions until about three days before school began. As for the English book, Escape of Camp-14, I didn't begin reading the book until the evening before school started. As you can probably imagine that was an extremely stressful time for me.

Another word that suits me well from the Birth Order Research is "rescuer." I consider myself a rescuer because I often times find myself trying to protect or in a way save others. For example, although I am constantly arguing with my sister and getting her into trouble, when I parents yell at her I tend to jump in and try to protect and defend her. Another example of why I consider myself a rescuer it's because I'm constantly trying to get my parents to donate money to the foundation to help people in need. Also, whenever I passed by a homeless person, I pull out any change I have with me to give to them. In addition I cannot stand to watch the animal shelter commercials, the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital commercials are any commercials of the sort without shedding a few tears.

Overall I think the traits depicted among only children definitely fit me accurately. Although not everything described me 100%, it was amazing how Accurate the document was. This research helped me learn some things about myself that I didn't know before.

Reflections on Week 1

  1. I don't think their are any factors that would majorly affect my participation. Luckily, I do have access to a computer and a smart phone. As for my scheduele, that would be the only thing that may affect my effort in the class. Because of the new schedule, I am taking all 7 classes at once. This may become to stressfull and it won't allow me to put in 100% effert into the work I turn in for english.
  2. The most memerable learning experience i've had is when I went to Sedgwick Reserve during fourth and fifth grade. This experience changed me because it helped me love the outdoors. They not only taught us about plants and animals, they also taught us important morals and life lessons.
  3.  I am most concerned about the work load of this class. This year, im taking on alot of challenging classes therfore i'm afraid that the work load will be to much to handle. most of all, I look foward to learning about greek gods and godesses.

6 word memoir

This quote, to me, signifies the importance of happiness. A lot of times, we look at celebrities and tell ourselves that they have it all because they're so rich and pretty, but we need to remember that happiness is all we really need. Regairdless of all the money and fame you may have, unless you're happy, you'll never really be fulfilled with your life. Remember to always choose what makes you happy.
